Low Voltage Outdoor Lighting Is The Right Choice For Your
Home
What you want is nice looking outdoor
lighting. What you don't want is lighting that might be
dangerous for pets and kids. The answer lies simply in
low voltage outdoor lighting.
There are many reasons why you might want outdoor lighting.
It could be to provide light to walkways, it could be for
safety reasons, to provide light in an area you will entertain,
or simply to create an area that will be the focal point of
your yard. But there are problems that inevitably pop up,
especially with high voltage systems. Safety hazards are one,
as is the cost of electricity and even hiding the cable which
will likely need to be buried.
Children of course are curious. So are pets. As a result,
outdoor lighting cables can be dangerous. Low voltage outdoor
lighting has the advantage of a smaller cable which will be
easier to conceal or bury. What you'll need is a simple
transformer to reduce the normal 120 volts of electricity down
to a much smaller and safer 12 volts. At 12 volts the risk of
electrical shock is eliminated should the line become damaged.
For instance if you dog chews on it or your child decides to
cut it.
As an added bonus, low voltage outdoor lighting will cost
less to run. You won't be using nearly as much electricity to
keep the lights on all night.
There is another advantage to low voltage outdoor lighting.
Lets face it, many people like change. You may want to change
your outdoor furniture, or perhaps change your landscaping and
plants occasionally. Everybody likes to keep things fresh. That
means you may want to change the look of your outdoor lighting
also. Low voltage outdoor lighting fixtures are easy to move or
even replace. With a standard high voltage system this change
can be a real pain. The size of high voltage systems and the
bulky power cables make them difficult to rearrange.
Unless you already have a high voltage system installed,
there's really no reason not to go with low voltage lighting.
There are no limits on the number of lights or how large of an
area you will cover. The only thing you will have to remember
is to be sure you are using the proper transformer based on the
amount of wattage in the system. If you will have a lot of
lights, you may need more than one transformer. But adding a
second or even a third transformer is really not a problem at
all.
Low voltage outdoor lighting is safer, more flexible to use
and requires less electricity therefore costing less money.
With this system you'll have so many more options for lighting
your yard.
